Welsh mountain bike centre gets accreditation

Coed Llandegla Forest in north east Wales has become the first mountain bike centre in the UK to be assessed and accredited by the International Mountain Biking Association UK (IMBA-UK).
The site, which welcomes 5,000 guests per month, boasts a selection of mountain bike trails, ranging from those suitable for families to those only for very experienced riders, as well as walking routes.
In the summer a new log cabin-style visitor centre was opened, containing a café, shop, bike repair and hire and classroom facilities for various courses including forestry education and bike tuition.
The centre is operated by Oneplanet Adventure, a company run by mountain bikers Ian Owen and Jim Gaffney; Gaffney was formerly mountain bike development officer for Denbighshire Countryside Service.
The property is owned by UPM Tilhill, which has developed it with funding from the Forestry Commission, Wales Tourist Board and Cadwyn Clwyd. Details: www.coedllandegla.com or www.oneplanetadventure.co.uk
