Whats the deal with this derailleur? Its heavier than the 9.0 SL, and the same weight as XTR, but it costs A FORTUNE!!! What is the benefit?

it looks pretty sweet, and has more open holes that can catch more mud. But with the holes it is also easier to clean out.

Now I really do hate having to rely on manufacturer's weights, but according to SRAM the XO is quite a bit lighter than 9.0SL.

Everyone was running them at sea otter. Other than the flashyness of the product, it seems nice. Do you have to use XO shifters and just not any Sram shifters? I heard something like that.

I think the new XO der should be compatible with all their 1:1 ratio shifters.

I don't know about XO weight, but the 01' 9.0sl was a pig. The lighter rear derailleur they had was the carbon - look 99' 9.0sl.

My 01' 9.0sl weighs 252g

My 99' 9.0sl weighs 179g, but it pretty damn fragile(good for xc)

I've still got a couple pairs of the 99' carbon look 9.0sl shifters that I use, I like the feel better than the newer ones.

The XO stuff does look sweet but I don't know if has any performance gain or just looks cool. I guess time will tell.

the XO, from what i could see, was a major chi-chi item, but it had some cool stuff:

aluminum body and parts, with a few carbon spots

individually replaceable pivots (all of them!) held together with little c-clips

looks great

is made of metal (but composite is just as strong!) pfft i want mine made of metal... looks durable anyway

not heavy - but my standards are off, being a DHer

From what I've heard, it's quite a bit lighter than the 9.0 of years past. Forged alloy links, TI spring, it really doesn't get much tricker than that! Plus, the new X.O shifters have some of the best feel (grip-wise) I've ever wrapped my hand around.
I should have mine pretty soon, if all goes well.
If not, I have a box of the old-style 9.0SL...

ok RM here is the deal, the shifters are made of the same materials as they have been for the last few years. the only thing different is the grip. ALL sram ESP shifters will work w/ any ESP rear derailuers b/c of the 1:1 ratio. ok on to the rear deraileur.
