Up here in NY they make Stromboli's with the pizza dough instead of a hoagie.

must be a midwest thing. pizza dough. Thats what Ohio's like too. Never heard of a stromboli sandwich

Yeah pizza dough, basically a smaller calzone that has not been sealed on one end so the cheese and stuff oozes out and gets all bubbly. Damn tasty grub.

Same way here in Southern California...made from pizza dough. There's a little "hole in the wall" place by my house who makes the best ones I've ever had...

The only time I've been to New Orleans, we went to this place and had killer "oyster loaf" which is basically heaps of fried oysters on thick-sliced white bread, holy crap it was good:

I have been deceived my whole youth by Pizza Bob's & you know what? I dont care. I am not a big calzone fan, so I probably wouldn't like a real Stromboli.

So, I will just call it a meat sandwich. :)
