Red Bull is backing and helping me 100% on this indevor with suport from the racing and ridding comunity it will happen and be amaizing. So speak up lay it on me and let me know what you think. I think it is lame to recreate anything. Redbull has always done original events and because of that there is tons of interest. Why not come up with something that will utilize a feature or...something that is unique to the area you want to host this in? There was the rampage in utah which was perfect...there was that crazy flying arts/crafts event in sanfran...then the race through the streets in lisbon? I think thats where it was...and the race through the mines..that was wicked!
surely there is something you can do in your area of interest that is both unique and interesting enough to bring in the big names and curious people :)

Whatever is done, make sure some LOCAL sports channels broadcast it. Because I don't have full cable I'd like to see it on a regular channel for once, not some special ESPN channel that I dont have.
how bout a professional ticket dodging contest at one of the exits??

Race down Mt Rainier....from the summit!!!!
edit: actually, on a more serious note, some sort of Mt. St Helens event would be in the sprit of thr redbull comps.

How about the venue setting be Hood River?? Could either feature the GFRA trails on Post Canyon....and/or a downtown event utilizing the elevation of the town with the finishline being in the middle of town next to Mountain View Cycles (and the other place). Of course P/C would offer a variety of skinnies, drops, logs, and flat out speed.

24hr dh maybe or a dh race in the snow might be pretty cool, race could start in the snow and get onto dirt later or all snow.

another idea:
start at the top of a hill and have a finish but no specific course to the bottom, give the riders a gps location for the finish, it would need to be at a good area with several possible routes nearly equal, a place with no trails would be perfect, thin trees or sagebrush would be good too. this would be hard to film and view. have a couple riders in a group, through in some helmet cams to catch the drama and crashes. no prescouting etc.
not so environmently nice but kinda cool. Freeriding old school style.

is it concrete that it is going to happen in washington? me and my friends have kicked around ideas that would be specific to different locations in portland and oregon. but i dont want to really write them all out here if there is no chance that they are gonna happen where i want them too.(i hope this makes sense) :p
... Why not come up with something that will utilize a feature or...something that is unique to the area you want to host this in?...
drop space needle and use the key arena for a trany.
actually, i think Joel's second idea is right on. find some steep face out on highway 97 up toward Blewitt pass. it's steep, wide open, probably a bunch of fire roads all over the place.
or maybe skeetching up I-90??? that would be rough. or better yet, up fireroads?

How about a dh race, on a frozen/snow covered trail... frozen mud/dead fall/puddles etc... or half urban/half super D... urban part could have a kicker onto a wrecked car that you have to ride over(?)... I've always wanted to ride a bike over a car...

My suggestion would be to stage the venue somewhere near some of the more unique PNW icons, where they would be in your face photo ops. Something where Rainier is evident, or even Hood, Baker, or some major tidewater feature. I would think that a venue near Baker, with the Puget Sound on the other side would be picturesque. Plus, it is close enough to BC to draw the NS/Whist/Nelson/Rossland/Kamloops crowds down.

Umm Yeah Great Ideals fellas.
I think your best is to throw an event somehwere in Washington that the land owners, city, county, Park Rangers, etc will actually allow a Redbull style event.
Yeah Good Luck.

Oh wait here's a thought. Like states that don't allow Casino's...... Build a Freeride course on a giant Barge and Float it close to the City in Elliot Bay, of course you would have to buy the barge, not rent or borrow, or else the owners would be liable.

K sorry about the sarcasm. Here's an idea
A Speed Trials/Dual Slalom event that incorpartes both disciplines. Side by side racing with higher speed trials obsctacles, and dual slalom berms, doubles and hips. Woudn't require to much land, good for camera's and unique.
Think we got a weiner!

So far I am liking the wide open idea's don't know about the fire roads they can be no fun. and deffinatley it woul be cool to have some sort of wierd unique obstacle to jump over IE bus, fire, a stack of speakers pounding hot beats. Remeber the beauty of what makes the rampage in utah work is the extreme amount of creative the riders can use fully displaying there abilities so know one ends up in gettin hosed by the course desighn. It is all about who spits hot fire.
What about a NIGHT event no one has done that i can think of.

Toorikky is onto something. We could have the event at or near a casino on tribal land. Couple the promotion of the event with the casino increasing crowd size / viewership. Since the event would be on tribal land we would be able to be more creative in the type of event and stunts without big government telling us we can't do something.

Yeah the latest Decline Mag has a write up of a Speed Trials event they did in South America in a downtown metro area w/ all the big names like Chase, Vandine and Mcaul. The Pictures of it are pretty insane, it looked like a fun event to watch. Imagine if you had course like that with dirt jumps and berms and such as well. It would be like dual slalom on steriods!

how about a freeride comp at night with no lights. Riders get to practice in the light, then have to use the "force" to navigate gaps and skinnies....
haha.
oh and some hot beats.....

Was done already in Boston as a Redbull event I believe? It was done either way.
I think they do this every Jan or Feb up in BC Place in Vancouver. Indoor Slalom like event that features obstacles. Sort of trialsy?

I remember talking to Scott From Bikeworks and he said that when we raced at Snoqualmie, as he was working on some bikes he was approached by some guys saying they were with a tribe and that if he was working on the bikes for money he would have to get a permit or otherwise compensate the tribe.
I asked some people that are sort of familiar with this type situation and they said that if the tribal land is also USFS, the USFS trumps the tribe? He wasn't 100% but was pretty sure.
I always wondered about talking to the tribes out towards the coast about putting on an event on their lands. There is a casino as you head out towards Shelton that just built a hotel I believe. I thought this would be perfect for both - we get a place to ride/race, they get people who normally wouldn't visit the casino staying the night and spending money there.

I also think an indoor place ala Skatebarn would be cool for stunts/DJ's. You would need to find a cheap wharehouse and then try to get people to support it.

Yeah that's called Speed Trials. I have only seen these events on course witha bunch of wooden obstacles. My idea would be to incorporate some big jumps, berms, and hips some as well as the skinnie's, humps and such found in Speed Trials events, in side by side format like Dual Slalom

From my professional work experience, tribes in Washington are not required to pursue the same permitting process as everyone else. Good examples of this is the Muckleshoot (spelling?) amphitheater and Emerald Queen casino. Although not personally involved in the two aforementioned examples these are two projects that have been in the news for not pursuing clear and grade permits from state or local jurisdictions. I have been involved with several other large tribal projects which did not require any permitting from state or local jurisdictions, just not as controversial.

how about a chinese downhill (everyone at once, last one standing is victorious)
-OR-
block off 3rd st. in Moscow, do like the running of the bulls in Spain, but with a bunch of angry cows, or drunks driving combines.
I will volunteer myself as a combine driver even though I have no prior experience, I stole a bulldozer once. Or, I could ride a cow.
Whatever the case, there should be a bunch of firecrackers and candy for the competetors

LOL Ridding by brale is the pooo!!!! For real though have a Dh course and the turns and danger spots marked with glow sticks and the riders get a Helmet light of some sort or something like that. It could be interesting I know running the trails at night is a blast. You take that and mix it with Dylon spitting hotfire and you got The snip snap snizzle baby
sand panda - who are you!! you are obviously on inside with awesome ideas like candy and firecrackers for the competitors. Ideas like that are genious...almost too genious..... only one man I know with that kind of intilect. You are obvioulsy a member of the Shlitz crime family.

I like the dual slalom/freeride idea. I think, however, it should be set in downtown seattle at night time. There are some really steep hills there, which can be used as landing for jumps, and would make for some serious speed.

just to through this out there there is no way it is gonna be in seattle there is way way way to much crap to wade through to get city streats closed down. It is first and foremost a MTB contest so it will be in ther EL DIRT (that is spanish for "The dirt")

ok so i am not sure the event but the video crazed event we had was awesome..though not as many people as you would hope, something along those lines though would be cool. the spots your thinking are interesting but have you actually looked at them?? rocks for landings aren't cool...(hopefully i didn't give the location(general area) away...
but anyways the video thing would work well again as i think now that there is a formidable # of people in the area, more people would come. maybe advertise the showing too in the cub auditorium(ui equivilant...blah dee blahh)
so yeah i think i miight drink some RB now and cry....
WSU URBAN RIDES WEDNESDAY NIGHTS!!! meet at the CUB 7pm everyone show up cause riding is funnnnn

The biggest problem with a campus ride is A. Last time we were there everyone who wasn't a wsu student got threatned with tresspassing and destruction private property. B. I want to put on something that is more organized and spectator friendly that is in the the dirt. Plus rocks are part of MTBing and alot of stuff that is done at the rampage was cleared by people who planned on doing it. creating the chance for ultimate freedom.

Your local Trials snob.
I think you're on to something though, just do a bikercross event from Capital Hill to Pioneer or Beacon to SODO with enough big obstacles to double over/wallride off of (metro long buss turned so it's kinked in the middle?).
Then again, isn't that called the Dead Baby Downhill?

How about Ashland? There is a sweet spot to build some big stuff...a huge bowl-like rock pit that would be very spectator friendly...lots of local support...right on I-5...I am sure the city would allow all the permitting and everything!!! Yea!

call DNR, get permission for a race in the CAPITOL FOREST (Olympia, baby!), throw it at night, use trail 30 (gnarly shuttle run with DH terrain with babyheads and roots), see about the possiblity of using non permanent wooden obstacles in the race ( might not be permissable for insurance reasons) light the obstacles and landings with lanterns and mark the trail with glowsticks. Something like this would rule. GNARCORE for life!
I am try to provide a realistic synthesis of some of the ideas mentioned above, as some of them were poop.
Thanks for reading my ramble. I had fun, did you? :)

Yeah I know it's called Speed Trials!
I figure if they don't count dabs, then what's the point? It's just a DS course with big ups or skinnies in the middle of it. Hardly trials. But evidently Trials is too hard for the FR crowd around here, hence it's unpopularity. "Go big DUDE" "Send it Eh!" "Pin it!" Sometimes I wonder why you guys aren't into motoX instead of something that you have to pedal and handle with all that suspension and crap to lug around. To each their own though.
Like I said: s n o b.
I like the barge idea the best so far, 'cept you need some bungee jumping, paragliding, from barge to barge to make it more "extreme".
Seriously though. A jump jam of some sort on a barge in Elliot bay does sound pretty sweet. Do they make em that large though? Like tanker large? That seems flamboyant enough for Redbull.
