This afternoon, about 20 miles into a 36 mile ride on the back roads near my home I was passed by two younger guys in an old Ford truck. No big deal since every other vehicle around here is an old Ford truck, what was cool was that about ¾”of a mile down the road the truck had pulled off to the left and the passenger was crossing the road. Just before I caught up he turned and offered me a bottle of frosty, ice cold water. Now how cool was that? You never hear about the good people in vehicles when it comes to road cycling. Anyhow it was overcast and only about 68 degrees so I declined but made sure to say thank you. Where they had stopped is an country store, I assume they went inside for something because I was about 3 miles down the road when they passed me again. This time the passenger was hanging out the window and saying “Last chance” as he offered me the water again. So this just goes to show that there are nice guys who live in the sticks and drive old trucks. :thumb:

Oh and the ride… moderately hilly, low wind conditions, finished in 2:03:43 at 17.4 MPH, about a 75% effort.

Nice setup. I was sure this was going to be yet another near-death story but I'm pleasantly surprised that it wasn't!:thumb::cool:

Sweet! I figured it was going to be a big rant about getting run off the road by some idiot. Glad to hear it was not!

Did an organised century last weekend that started in a small town on the border of West Virginia and regular old Virginia. Most cars that passed gave us the thumbs up or cheered us on, they seemed very happy to have us out there sharing their roads and beautiful views.

Most bike riders on the road seem to be too focused to notice if you give them a thumbs up.

I didn't want to open it and get all pissed off. But now I'm glad I did.

That's a pretty good pace.

And it's nice to hear about a good encounter with a vehicle. :D
