I love my Specialized Roubaix comp. I was about 4 miles from home and looked at my ridetime, and I was totally bummed, it seemed so slow, then I realized I took a different way home today, and it was significantly longer, and a little more difficult. I checked my average speed and couldn't believe it.
My commute home today, 101 degrees, no wind to speak of(5mph diagonal to my commute), 23 miles @ 20.2 miles per hour average speed, 68 minutes ride time, I spent most of my time at or below my AT.
The 40 miles of trail rides up at high altitude in Flagstaff (7-10K high) must have really made a difference.

Wind really sucks, I did a commute home one day into a 15 mph head wind. I was cranking like Jan Ullrich and only doing about 15 mph myself.
The flip side is here in Phoenix if there is no wind, you have Ozone, at least in the summer.

I live near the coast so there is always a 15 to 20 MPH breeze from the west in the afternoons, when I ride out of town I ride up the river valleys and so does the wind - you end up riding back down at the same speed you rode up.

You ever get one stuck at the back of your throat? Riding and gagging at the same time.....

A couple of evenings ago, I just finished a pretty solid interval and had just sat up. Sure enough, as I was taking a deep breath I had something fly in. Never even touched my mouth - it hit square in the back of my throat. Big one, too! Needless to say I didn't get the last part of that breath as I went into instant-gag mode. Nearly crashed I was gagging so bad.

Oh man I've been there. About a month ago I had the almost the same thing happen, I thought I was going to puke while still riding.
