mavic 823 and wtb tires w/ tubes

I just received mavic 823 ust rims. The mechanic at my lbs says I can't mount my wtb weirwolfs with tubes on them. Is he right? I mounted them and they seem okay. I haven't taken them out yet as I dont want to damage them if he was correct.

I looked at the cross section of this rim and it looks like the chanel in the middle could be a little hard on tubes.

But the rim itself looks like it would have no problem holding onto a regular tire. My recomendation would be loose the tube, use the tire with Stans sealent. It works great! http://www.notubes.com/home.php

I set them up and will be trying them out this afternoon. If it doesn't work out, I guess I'll go tubeless.
