View Full Version : 4-arm XTR DH cranks ...
... are useless for trying to find a chainguide to fit them, what with their freakish 112 mm BCD. I've only found one that works -- the MRP Ultraspeed, which is only good for 44+ tooth rings.
can I change the spider to something a little more commonplace?

I feel your pain -- I had the freakish 112 mm cranks, too. I sold them after a lbs said that the spider couldn't be swapped out. They may be wrong, though; I certainly wouldn't put it past them.

they are wrong. tell them to order the xtr 5 arm cross country 110mm bcd spider. it is totally interchangable i have done this on several different cranksets. also i have been told that the cheaper ac 5 arm spider works, call like cambria, they can probably give you the skinny on that compatibility, but for sure the shimano cc 5 arm spider works, but it is expensive.

The AC at Cambria is $25 (I think) and does work. I originally had the cranks to go with it, bent them and switched to the XTR and was able to reuse the spyder and chainguide.
and here I am eyeing up a $250 set of profiles. thanks for saving me the $225. :D

There are several different manufactures for those spiders.

D'oh. That's the last time I listen to them.
