I put a new chain on my bike last night. I didn't measure right the first time and took too many links off using my park tool. I went to add some of the links back on that I took off and I couldn't quite get them to go back together right. My technique was squeezing as hard as I could on the outside of the links with a pair of pliars to try and get the hollowpin back through both ends of the link. I thought I had it but about 5 mins into my test ride the chain came apart. Is there a trick to this?

Your best bet is to go to the shop and get another quicklink connector doodad. I've put chains back together in the past and they usually fail. Use the same tool that you used to get it apart. It won't really work if you pushed the pin completely out.

ah, yes. excellent idea. I have a couple of extras of those already. It won't be a problem to have more than one of those quick links on the chain? Is it safe to re-use those?

I don't know what the "official" company word is, but I've done it before with no problems.

It's a powerlink, and it's the only way to safely reconnect a sram chain.

Right. I meant from a legal standpoint, I don't know what the official SRAM position is on using more than one per chain.
