Marzocchi 888 VF

Hi would like to have your opinion,

I have a new Marzocchi 888 VF and after the first ride I notice a stange noise coming from it, not when compressing the fork but when shaking it. It turn out that the spring is a little too short, so it loose and make the noise.

The guys at my lbs (where I bought that fork) said it's normal and place a little piece of plastic inside compression chamber so the spring isn't loose no more.

I find it strange that for $1000+ need that kind of trick to function proprely, what do you think?

Actually, this is a problem with some other Marz. forks as well. If you contact Marzocchi, I believe they'll usually provide you with a solution. If you don't mind a little preload, sometimes cranking down the preload a bit will fix it.

It sounds like it's missing the factory plastic piece that provides the preload, you can just as easily make one and it would be fine.

And I hope you didn't pay over $1000 for that fork, it only retails for $700....

I insisted that they recheck it and they found that something is broken inside and has to be fix by Marzocchi (probably the factory piece of plastic that provides the preload as mentioned by zane). Anyways, i hope it will get fix soon so I can get back on my favorite bike.

Btw, bought a complete bike with that fork on it so I don't know exactly how much I paid for it... but the bike was quite expensive :( Also i've seen that fork advertise for $969 at jensonusa dot com...

So Zane, if you could tell me were do you shop? it would be greatly appreciated.

igloo, the price at Jenson is MSRP. If you add the item to your shopping cart there, you'll see that it's only $739 (at least, it was last time I checked). They are obligated to post only the MSRP of the fork on the main page.

Most of my stuff when I order online comes from www.go-ride.com - they're cool guys who know a lot about the products they sell. They're not the absolute cheapest online, but they're close and their knowledge makes up for the price difference.

www.pricepoint.com is good for small, inexpensive stuff. It usually gets shipped in a crappy brown box, so don't expect retail packaging or anything, but I've had nothing but good experiences there.

www.jensonusa.com is usually good, I found it for the same at www.pricepoint.com.
