The ride? FUN! A light, flickable mini-DH bike. The 66 is great, much stiffer and more control than the previous Z.1 which I loved. I'm undecided if I'd prefer the lower height of the '06 version or not. It might actually be too steep if it's as low as they say, same height as the 6" Z.1's. Right now I'm at 66 HA and 69 SA, a bit wobbly if you're not at speed. But I'm thinking I might be tempted to go to the '06 66 at 170mm to gain 20mm more travel while still losing 20mm in height, and supposedly save some weight too. I've got a 7.5x2.25 Vanilla I could send off to PUSH. That'd give me about 6.75" travel front and rear. Short of a trip to a real DH/FR playland that would be plenty of travel for me, and at around 35 pounds still something I can pedal around my trails here.

Future upgrades? Not much. Budget-wise maybe an SX-5 rr der for the mid-cage option. Wishing-wise, an X-0 shifter and X-0 short-cage rr der. Possibly the above-mentioned '06 66RC2X in 170mm, and having my 2.25" shock PUSHED. Maybe some 2.5 Nevegals too, just for fun.

Looks very nice. Here's my "round 3" 2001 RFX. Better than ever. Almost went with the 66 but decided it would be too slack so opted for the '05 Firefly to maintain 6x6 (although like you my Avy is a 2.25" stroke which is .25" longer than stock so it's more than 6" rear). Judging by your HA measurement I made the right choice for me since I do a ton of XC on mine. My '05 upgrades include:

Hadley 108pt Gold hubs, 10mm rear
Saint RD
Diabolus cranks
2005 Sherman FF
rebuilt Avy DHS
new 2004 ex823 rims

Very nice RFX.

I say leave the travel at 6, keep the bottom bracket lower and slack the head angle. I just put a shorter i2i pushed fox on my bullit, i lost an inch of travel, but the bike feels like a small DH bike now. I've never been able to ride steep stuff like I can now, and I actually like having a little less travel. I used to have an 9 inch i2i romic, so the bike lost some weight too. Anyways, that's going to be a fun ride.

Hey Bulldog, NICE RIDE MAN!!!!!!

I like the 05 version the best! My rfx is set up as 6x6 right now also.
6" rockers w/romic and 03 z150 up front. Not sure what the angles are?
I would like to slack out the HA a bit more but am afraid a higher fork will give me a higher BB? As it is now I sit with the seat all the way down and can just touch my feet flat on the ground.
What is the A-C of your 150mm 66? Thing looks pretty hugh!!!
I really like the looks of the 170mm 66

BTW, def. get some 2.5 blue groove for the front!!! Rode the McKenzie river trail here in Oregon yesterday and the 2.5 BG up front and the 2.35 nev. rear performed flawlessly! Plowed over all the rocks and no worries about pinch flats or punctures in the lava fields.

How did you come across the 6" plate version that gives a lower BB? I should really get some of those!!!!!!!!

Enjoy

You're probably around 68* HA.

Higher fork = higher bb.

AC for 66 150mm = 575mm.

I think my plates are the old optional plates, when the RFX came standard with 5" travel. The last couple year or two it came at 6" usually. I bought mine used though so I don't exactly know that as fact. Even Dave Turner hasn't given a great explanation about when and why the plates/geo changed.
