It's finally time to change the bushings in my 01 Monster. I talked to a guy at Marzocchi the other day and he said I would need $60 just in tools, and then of course new seals and the bushings themselves. I have an old manual for the fork and it shows that you take out the main bushing by first removing the seals and then turning the slider upside down and hitting it square on a piece of flat wood. It doesn't show that the bushings require any special tools. Has anyone changed out the bushings on an older Monster like mine? I would really like to just order the bushings and do it myself, if I can. I've replaced the seals twice in this fork, so I'm pretty familiar with it. Unfortunately I just replaced the seals at the beginning of the season, so they are pretty much gonna be wasted when I remove them. I don't have time to send it in to Marzocchi because I'm going to the Shore and Whistler on July 26th. I don't really want to ride the fork much longer, because the play is getting worse, and I don't want to ruin it. Someone please tell me that it's an easy operation. Thanks!

Not 100% sure, but I think the tools are for removing and replacing the seal. I think you can replace the bushings by hand.

It has been a while since I replaced the bushings in my old '01 Monsters, but I don't remember needing any special tools to get them out.

If you find that the bushings aren't budging, you should be able to hook the head of a spoke under the bottom of the bushing sleeve and pull the whole thing out.

I believe the bushings are split, meaning they aren't pressed in and can be removed by hand. If I remember right, rockshox bushings require a special slide hammer.
The tools are required for a proper seal change. If you are replacing the seals at the same time (which you should) then you can improvise with a spoon.

You should be able to do it without the proper tools if you can find something with the correct diameter.
