Is that white bushing supposed to be in the left leg, or the right leg? Currently I'm using it in the right leg.

f*ck it, I just took it out. It was causing the springs to be at different levels, and then after putting the black tube spacer thing on top of the springs, I couldn't just screw the cap on b/c the spacer was above the cap threads. WTF? So I just removed it. Any downsides to this?

Did you try compressing the spring while tightening the cap?
