National Politics are always swinging one way or the other. There were the socialist economics of FDR and the fun old days of McCarthyism. There is little question that things have swung into the right hand side of things. The question is will it go further or will we see the end of things soon and how extreme do you think things have gone?
With falling public support of Bush's war, SS reforms and general approval ratings drop I think things might have turned. But so far there seems to be no Democratic leadership and I doubt success for them in '08 and even smaller chances with a third party, if the Reps shoot down moderate candidates like McCain again could things swing back to where they are today or even further?

What are you talking about man, there'll be another war between then and now that we can all get behind.

There is no conservation here. Take a look at gas prices.
