I want to run my singlespeed DOC at the shortest chainstay length - how to I go about doing this?

http://www.evilbikes.com/images/str...doc_dropout.jpg

I think I should:

1) loosen the sliding dropout bolts and slide them all the way forward

2) tighten the bolts down

3) remove any excess links from the chain

4) loosen the sliding dropout bolts and adjust tension with the bolts that run parellel to the chainstay

Is this how it works? I had the shop build it up so this si my first time messing with it!

What gear ratio are you running? I have run 34:16 and 34:14 at the shortest point on my DOC without any tension problems.

I'm running a 36:16

NM anyways. I just screwed myself by taking out too many links! I needed to take out just one...is that even possible or do you have to take out 2?

I am so choked right now I could scream. The wrench is going across the room in a moment....

if you use a bmx chain you can use a half-link.

Nope, but since I'm gonna need a new chain anyways, now's as good a time as any to switch.

Thanks

SRAM PC-7X.

by the way, if you took out too many links, you can put them back on with your chain tool. you don't need to buy a new chain if you still have the extra links.

Depends on the chain. If a pin is cross-step riveted, you can't just push it back through the plate because the hole has been enlarged.

while we're on the topic, how much does a chain affect the way your bike rides? I've been riding for about 10yrs starting with XC, then DH and now jumping and I've never given much thought to my chain. I cleaned and lubed 'em, but never have I invested in an expensive chain. What am I missing and does it matter on a single-speed jumper?

bmx chain will be a little stronger, that's about it. though, don't try to run one with a derailleur. you won't get too far along.
