I agree that the prices I checked were way too much for any of my bikes. However, I posted for people who may have a hard time finding hangers for their bikes...

I actually think I might get one or two for my norco. The things that came with it are butter.

My only question would be if they are any different or maybe even made somewhere else............ or if they are the exact same pieces.

Anyway, thanks for the link. I just bookmarked it.

If this is indeed someone making new hangers, not just reselling factory stock, this could be a good thing. While the Turner hangers are machined alum, I've seen some very expensive bikes with hangers that are made of butter.
I get people asking me all the time if I can machine some out of real aluminum. Unfortunatly, it's not worth my time.

Hi, all

Here's what's up at my site.

Started about 2 years ago as the owner of a bike shop working extra hard to get hangers for bikes I had in for repair. If you're not a Trek dealer but have a Trek in for repair, Trek won't sell you a hanger. You're supposed to take your hard-earned loyal customer and send him down the street to your competitor.

Built collection, word got out, created dedicated web site. Originally only had OEM hangers. Over the last two years, gradually got several independent machinists in the US and Canada to "clone" the most popular hangers out of billet aluminum so I could 1) have better than OEM product and 2) have regular inventory when needed. OEM hangers you all know are pot-metal and weaker than they should be. Needless to say, made-in-the-USA-from-pure-billet hangers cost a lot more than OEM junk.

As of this post about 60 of my 120+ different hangers I have made from billet. Goal is 100%, should take another couple of years. It costs over $500 to clone a new hanger with engineering costs and machining set up costs. I then have to sell enough hangers to get that back, then hope to make a profit a year or two down the road. Hangers for bikes that sell only a few a year like for really old bikes it doesn't make economic sense, so if I can score some OEM hangers somewhere, that will have to do for the less popular ones. So I'll probably never get to 100%.

Add to that the fact that manufacturers don't give a crap about a guy with a 7 year old bike that needs a hanger. These things are just really hard to come by. I've been working closely with Wheels Manufacturing of Boulder, CO - some of you will recognize that name, they make top quality bicycle stuff, spacers, bolts, cogs, hangers. I'm the one that's feeding him all the hangers he has in his product offerings.

So am I a reseller of OEM hangers? Only when I have to (hanger popularity dictates this). Am I a manufacturer? No, I don't own the machine shops, but yes I get new hangers machined by multiple US and Canadian machine shops, a few new ones go into aftermarket production every month. The machine shops have the $80,000 dollar machines ready to make hangers. There's no way I could own one just by selling hangers.

By using Wheels Manufacturing to make hangers, they are instantly available to all bike stores through regular dealer wholesale channels. That means I've kind of "open sourced" my hanger manufacturing. I've eaten the production set up cost yet any bike store can order these and I don't make a cent off that. My retail is at or less than you would pay at most local bike shops. I want people to support their local bike shop/dealer. I was one for over 20 years. But they can't stock or even special order these things and make money doing it, they just don't sell enough in a year and there are so many.

I am single-handedly making hangers available to cyclists across the world. The ones that buy from my site help other cyclists be able to buy them through their own local bike shops. The more I sell, the more hangers are available to the local bike shop industry.

As for manufacturers themselves, they lose money every hanger they sell. They aren't set up to take multiple emails from every single cyclist with a bent hanger "Is this the right one for my 199x Whoopeteedoo Model serial number BR4592489JERK Blue - here's some pics".

At the prices I'm at, I can make few bucks, help the world get more hangers and enjoy making cyclists happy all over the world. I put tons of hours into this business and it's fueled every day by the thank you emails I get. It's a crazy little business but it sure is fun helping cyclists every day.

So why haven't they made a derailuer hanger "standard" yet?
I know some of the DH frames will require something special, but for the other 95% of frames built it sure seems like they could come up with something.
Its not like they are using some technologically advanced designs for this?
