View Full Version : figuring out what size bb I need

I have a 2000 specialized fsr rock hopper, I was told by specialized it was a special edition with the team dh stickers, I dont know what size the bb is, anyone familiar with this bike?

Measure the BB tube on the frame to determine the BB shell width. It will be either 68mm or 73mm.
Then decide the axle width.
On my bighit I use a 113 with but if you are going to use a BB mounted chain devive use a 118.
I would think the same widths should be fine for your frame.

I'm thinking 113 like the other dude...now you just need the shell width. By the way, I'm pretty sure it's 113 because that's usually the current default standard if you're running triple rings (correct me if I'm wrong someone). What you can do it get the 113 and try it on your bike...if you know the people at your shop and their good people, they should be able to let you try it to see if your chainline is right and tell you to bring it back to exchange in case it doesn't fit.
