Eric Carter dropped me a line & asked me to post this on the forum. With all the speculation & rumors going on, he wanted to straighten things out...

"as some people know now...i crashed a couple weeks ago and broke my wrist(navicular to be specific)...it was my first day back from my ankle injury....i just over cooked a corner and shot off line into some boulders and went over the bars. I was going across a creek and went face first into the other side...thought i had done my back in as it went numb for a bit...any way i had my hand out and my body came down on my hand/wrist....i had 2 choices...cast for 8 weeks or surgery and be on teh bike in 20 days.......i had surgery last wed. Dr Reiman did the surgery (he works on a lot of the top moto guys) he said it should be no problem and that by getting it fixed right away i avoided a lot of the problems with the navicular.....

i still plan to be at all the norba's and still plan on doing all the clinics with rich houseman. we have been doing clinics the last couple years and developed a good formula for teaching....i'm only going to miss one norba so i still plan to be in the hunt for the overall's...to dispell all the forum rumors.....it won't take 14 weeks...the bone wasn't broken in 2 and it isn't the end of my career...thanks e.c."

Good to hear he should be healing up quick!

That's great news that it's not going to stop him racing this season. Can't wait to see him racing again.

Good to hear, going to good doc is 1/2 the battle with that, plus judging how fast he recoverd from the ankle I'd say he's a good healer, the other half, looking forward to see him back battling for the title.

Another good reason to for that throw out race.

...Hell yeah Eric - screw all the nay-sayers and speculators... I remember reading somewhere (won't mention) an article that was talking about E.C.'s injury. The writer was specifically mentioning the "navicular" bone and how that this could be the end of E.C.'s career (like the writer knew Orthopedics or something) - what with this following the broken foot... kinda laying the ground work for planting the idea that his racing days are over...

Everyone gets hurt - no one is indestructible... O.K. maybe Bender, but he's already 70% stainless steel anyway... :D

Dylan - tell Eric to go easy on the throttle coming off of an injury fer God's sake...

Hope he gets well soon - saw him in Fundamentals - great guy, great rider, and a great teacher...

It sorry to hear about the injury; however, I'm glad to hear that the recovery time won't be 14 weeks. I wish EC a speedy recovery, and I'm sure he will back on top of the podium, and I feel confident that the overall title will be his this year...

Who is E.C.? I am E.C.( just not that particular E.C.) I am older and was E.C. first, however the other E.C. has way more skills than I.
Heal up quick Eric. I have a friend who broke that bone and got the surgery, he is fine , it didn't take him long at all to recover. Good luck with your season.

Not to defend rumors, but I can see how the speculation was made as damaging the navicular bone, aka the scaphoid, has been the demise of many an athlete. Unfortunately, it's one of the smallest bones in your body, but it can cause you some of the most difficulty in life if you break it. Fortunately, he didn't break it clear through. The probability of it healing with no problems are much higher. If it had been broken in half or shattered, he may had been facing a much longer recovery time and it may have never fully recovered. I'm in the latter group. I shattered mine and most likely my racing career is over. It's been 10 months and my hand is still not normal. I also shattered some other stuff, but the scaphoid is really what is still causing the problem. Most likely, by the time I'm 40, my wrist will have to be fused into one position because the scaphoid will start to calcify and get severaly arthritic at an accelerated rate.

Scaphoids are a crappy thing to break, but it sounds like E.C's prognosis is good. I wish him the best and am glad to hear it shouldn't effect his career.
