All right guys - I'm a big dude 200 pounder! Broke my rear wheel (Rhyno lite to XT hub) last week so i'm shopping for some advice on wheels...I'm open to whatever, but I have found a very good deal on a complete set of Azonic Outlaws?...anybody ever ridden these?...

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

dan, go with them. They are good-n-cheap. Check out anything from Sun Ringle too. They are good people. I have a few double wides and a Sun Ringle Abbah rear hub too. If ya wanna build some.

Get 'em!

I'm 210lbs and ride a hardtail... been riding them for the past 4 months and they are great! I do drops, fast DHish runs, DJ and urban... cased a few landing and they are still true!

The mavics are really nice too. My ex 525 is really strong isn't nearly as heavy as a trail pimp. Also the ex729/d321 or the 817 is really nice. Trail pimps are heavy but indestructible.

I like the Outlaw but the front hub internals RUST after a short time. The inner rings are steal.

Check out the freeride wheel thread in this forum. Lots of suggestions for good rims to build up. Outlaw's should work for you as they're much stronger than just a Rhynolite, but there are stronger wheels out there still. I weigh less than you, and I prefer stronger wheels than Outlaws (the weight penalty is worth the strength IMO).

Outlaws are killer. I did a ton of research before buying (I even considered DeeMax's :nono: ) and ended up with the Azonic's. I'm 220 and I have been fairly hard on them and only a slight untruing on the rear so far.

I can't use the rear thru on my frame though :(

Buy 'em!

So I guess I'm sorta' in the same posistion as this guy. I've been needing a newwheelset for a while, but in all honesty, I haven't really gotten around to it. Thanks to a freak derailleur hanger getting snapped (Throwing my deraileur into my spokes, ripping a few out and helping me bend my rim to insane amounts) I'm shopping.

RIms like the outlaws look awesome, but the problem is that I'm running 2.3 tires. I'm not really opposed to getting new tires, but I'm not sure if I want to make the switch. I know it's lame, but I still go uphill sometimes. Plus, I'm running an 04 coiler. I don't know if that can support 2.5s without rubbing, seeing as the tires are pretty close as-is.

Any help? I'm looking for complete wheelsets I can get for under 350 that'll take a 200 pound kid dropping to flat once in a while.

Not knocking you, but why wouldn't you be able to run a 2.35 with the Outlaws? It's made for XC and light Dhing so it can take most tires out there right?!?!!?!

Hey, I don't take that as knocking. I figured they could, for the same reason you did, but whereever I looked online, they never mentioned specifically what size they could run.

But thanks. I think I'll be dropping the dough on them before the week is over.

Universal Cycles has them for 252.00 with a free set of azonic tires. Not sure if the tires are good or not, I am selling them so it's money back in my pocket thus making the price lower.

You can use a stepdown axle (Available from Azonic) for the rear which allows you to run a thru axle on your QR rear end frame, or just run the QR. (Rear converts to a 12mm thru).

I think the supergo ones come with that axel for free...maybe...

The wheel set comes with the 12mm thru. The 10mm thru that you can use on a standard qr is $14.95 extra.

Sorry, its the wheelworld one that says it "also comes with standard QR axel conversion kit"

Mine came with the conversion kits for both the front and rear wheel. They also came with skewers. Out of the box I can choose to run QR, or 20mm front, 12mm rear.

All remotely freeride oriented wheelsets should come with this option

for those of you who actually own these wheels I have a question. Does the rear hub develop play over time? I'm having this problem with my rear XT hub right now and I doubt it's the same hub used in the Outlaw wheelset I just want to make sure it doesn't suffer from the same problem.

I've got 2 sets of outlaws. I use the step down 12 to 10mm axle on both. They have been great. 32mm is a little narrow for a tire bigger than 2.5. Keep grease of the axles and you'll have no rust problems. The thru axle conversion is great to swith the wheels around to different bikes. They've held up well on a bullit and freeride hardtail. Even after casing some jumps on the hardtail they are still fine. I've seen them for as cheap as $199 on Ebay. I got one of the step down axles on Ebay for $6. You can get the step down axles for $15 at AE bike. For the price, highly recommended.

Keep grease on or off the axle?

I have been using WD40 to stop the rust from getting worse and it has worked OK so far. I do clean them more now that I know I have a rust problem. What can you expect from a $250 dollar set of wheels though. My other wheels cost me almost $1000 (CK hubs and 02 Deemaxx rims).

yep. azonic seats rule so the wheels MUST be good! :p just messing with you man. azonic makes some good stuff for cheap. i run the outlaw wheelset on my hardtail, and on dh bike and love em. like someone else said, the rear has only needed minor truing, and i ride the rocky east coast. such a great deal IMO. a quality wheelset for under 3 bills. doitdoitdoitdoit! you will not be disappointed with the outlaws.

I just bought the momentum axle for mine, $12. Now I can run a 10mm thru in my qr dropouts. I wish more hubs would have this interchangability. If thats a word.:)

I got one of those too. I can now run a QR, bolt on 10mm/standard dropouts, or a 12mm thru on the rear and either a QR or 20mm front. Now THAT'S versatility... and interchangeability!
