I'm thinking that's not the greatest idea, but this topic has been covered a million and one times. You might have better luck with a smaller, stiffer fork. If you want a lot of suspension, save up and get some in the rear. Good FS rigs don't cost that much more than a Morphine. And if you have an urban bike, you don't need another HT.
I have never understood why anyone would want to put such a large fork on a HT, but hey, common sense isn't stopping anyone else from doing it ;) If you want to take big hits, get a bike that's balanced for it.

I would suggest asking this question on Pinkbike as you'll get a lot more positive responses. I don't think the DH forum will be as helpful as I was. A Morphine is not a DH bike, so it really doesn't belong in there. Please don't create posts in the wrong forum.

Good call, now get a stiff 3" fork, maybe 4" (5" if you simply must), and ride urban and trail with it, even huck it a bit, and DJ it a lot. But don't expect to shred gnarly freeride trails with it. Use the money you just saved, and either build up this bike well and give up on your freeriding ambitions for now, or put it in the bank as a start toward a second bike (FS).

I wouldn't do that if I were you....

5" inches is perfectly fine on a hardtail meant for it. No way would I throw a 7-8 inch fork on the bike, but 5 inches isn't really pushing the limits of those bikes.
As for not "shredding gnarly freeride trails" with it, please. A good number of the Canadians on the Northshore are riding hardtails and you will find a good number of people going huge on their hardtails. I raced DH and rode some of the toughest trails in SoCal on my hardtail without a problem. With the right bike handler you can hit up just about any trail a FS rider can take on.
I would also say save up and get an FS bike though. Or turn your street bike into something more trail friendly so you can enjoy both worlds.

I'll clarify so both the Ito and the original poster can better understand what I said. I suggested that he turn that bike into an urban/DJ bike, hence the 3/4/maybe 5" fork. Of course a HT can take a 5" fork, I had one on my carbon fiber Trek! If you want it for trail use, do put a 5" fork on there, maybe even a 6" SC, but no more.
And of course you can ride a lot on a HT, but if you can afford a new Morphine, why not instead just get a bike that's better suited to the terrain? Sure, you can drive an S2000 on gravel roads, but wouldn't you rather drive an Evo or WRX?
