What is a good freeriding handlebar for heavy people? Bontrager has discontinued the crobar DH.
:(
I am actually asking this in all seriousness.
I want another cromo bar. Anyone?

Brooklyn makes some cromo bars.
They won't clear a 3.0 Gazzy, though.

Profile Racing (not Profile Design!) make some nice Cro-Mo MTB bars, they are BMX clamp size I believe (7/8"?) but a set of shims will fix that. Also I second the Deity recommendation.

I like the Atomlab ones.
The Bontragers were the sh*t. 28" wide, cromo, cross brace, $30.

KORE Strictly-D is a great bar. Order direct from them for about $60 unbreakable.

Does Kore even exist still? Plus it's an alloy bar with (IMO) a terrible feel (sweep). If you like those bars, Redline makes a very similar BMX cruiser bar for cheaper FWIW.

Gack!

Looks like you'd have to get a 7/8" clamp stem, though.
I believe Profile and Salsa both made cromo riser bars in recent past. Neither has said bars on their respective websites, but you might be able to track a pair down via QBP or just by contacting the companies. I think most modern steel mtb bars are just way overkill low-rise bmx bars, like gusset, .243, dmr, etc. While it's your perogative what you ride, I don't think you have any real safety concerns running aluminum bars. You just might have to retire them more often. I've never actually retired a handlebar, and I haven't broken one since the days of 150 gram straight xc bars. I'm pretty skinny, though. Really skinny, actually.

I run a bmx stem, so cromo is always an option.
I weigh 220 and I don't ride smooth, and I crash too often. Aluminum bars scare me.
But it's not so much the strength, I like how cromo feels. Like cheap ti in it's dampening. And for strength to cost it can't be beat. I see the .243 bars at unreal for $30, I might go for those.

One of the benefits of running a BMX stem is that sometimes you can fit a fork with a shorter steerer tube. :thumb:

I am .....well....BIG
I have rocked Renthal DH bars for 5 years.
I have been looking for other "sturdy" bars for big guys riding. I don't want to have to worry about Hbars when I am riding.
I have narrowed it down to some MX bars. Be carefull to shop around they come in many sizes. My Renthalls are still running strong but I am looing for another bar for my HT. I had the stock aluminum cheapy on my HT (26") and I tried my 28" Renthal. It was strange at first but now I like it better and that 26" bar is way to narrow. remember the MX bars are straight gauge 7/8" bars and require a shim/adapter like other steal bars.
I wager the MX bars are "as strong" as the steal counterparts.
And the WirdForce Ultracross hbar. 5yr warrenty cross brace and all. It looks like a possible comprimise between MTB and MX bars. no spacer/sdapter is needed.
