I just bought a Yakima Kingpin rack. I have a KHS XC104 bike.
Now, I'm wondering if it's the right one to use. The rear brake and shift cables run underneath the top tube.
The top tube rests on the cradle and the cables are in-between the cradle and the tube.
Will this damage the cables or detune the shifter?

Hmmm...Not exactly sure. My thinking is the cables are going to start chewing into the paint once you start driving with all the vibrations and such. Will it 'detune' your gear?? Possible, someone can jump in here to let us know. I figure if the bike is moving around, it's probably pulling and pushing the cables side to side...maybe stratching them.

Thanks... the bike is held snug so there's really not much movement (if any). I asked the bike dealer about it and he said it would be fine.

If you get concerned about it later you can use a Tube Top yakima accessory. It is a bar that reaches from the seatpost to the stem and hangs on hitch racks without the frame coming in contact with the rack. Also useful for not double diamond frames ie: beach cruiser, full sus bikes, trad. women's frames. Or you could just trade for a Sportworks.

Tube top is a waste of time and money. This is how it goes: One rack cradle goes under the top-tube right next to the seat-tube where the cables are already inside housing. And the other one goes. . . are you ready? under the down-tube. Bang! Money!
