how can you have word-of-mouth and the internet work for you if you dont put the info out there. you'll cover much more ground than 1-to-1 direct marketing tactics. becides, you'll make turning 40 less painfull. not that im nearing forty or anything.
I can bean all 40+ people! ;)

Well I must say this news is very disconcerting. If this is a attempt to go more 40+ expert riders to the races. It will fail. Most people that race expert and are over 40 can ride all the stuff in the expert/pro courses.
Would I be upset if some of the big (6ft plus)drops were tapped off for us "old folks" No I would not. But telling me that I drove 10 hours to get there and to only be able to race the sport course.(boring) I had 3 or 4 of the races at Platty on my calender. I just took them off.... I will just stay home or ride some place else. - JM

Have you been to Plattekill before? Even a sport cousre there would be super fun. Better than anything in Michigan.

Just curious have you been to a Plattekill race last Year ? The sport courses and the pro/expert courses are about 80% the same, the sections where they differ are the larger drops, then they hook back up. There was generally NO go arounds on the Pro/ex course as there should not be. The sport courses were as tough or tougher than all the other Expert courses at races that I attended in NE last Year. Another option is to race 30+ expert or practice and ride the expert course all day Sat and Sunday and just do Your race run on the sport course. We want You to come and thanks for Your imput.

Yes I have been to Plattikill 7 or 8 times. and the sport courses are just that "fun". Belive me I know my state is flat thats why I logged in 325 hours of drive time and traveled over 20500 miles last year alone. -JM

I did make it to only one race there last year. I raced many other places last year. Snowshoe, Durango (podiumed at both) I raced the US Open.
I also went "freeriding" at places like Bromont,Mt. St Anne, Winter park, Vail and Keystone. So im not just a shmuck with a opinion
I didnt even ride a bike till 1999. I road sport for a year and moved up. Not cause I was "the greatest" but because I wanted to push my limits and ride the Big courses.
Now as far as riding with the 30 year olds that just like burning my money. There is such a big difference in 10 years. I just couldnt compete. I gotta belive that i will be there for a few races regardless. But I just wont like it as much.-JM

Every drop in the last 6 years had a go round........sometimes you have to look for them because they are WAY OUT there and would be like a 10-20 second penalty but they are there.
Expert want to race expert courses. That is what they signed up for.......if you cant handle then stay in sport...... The top guys in that class are going to blow a gasket when they hear this......

I think this idea of older X's racing the sport course isnt such a bad idea. The sport courses at Plattekill are usually very similar to the Pro/X trail, minus a few of the nasties. It'll probably open the class a bit to more riders, but Can't Climb is right. The top guys will have a fit. I guess there's always the semi-pro class, but thats another story altogether.
I think this wouldnt be a bad idea for womens expert class too. The last few races I attended had very very few women X racers. Somewhere in the range of 3 to 5 riders at most. Im sure more would sign up if the danger factor wasnt so high.

point taken. I did not realize that Laz wanted to make this policy but rather, asked Me to contact racers. I posted it on 3 forums. got back over 25 responses all but two positive. but NO response back from the local 40+ experts. I will get back to Laz after this weeks snowmobile races. I wish some of these guys would drop Me a line. If they were adament about it I'm sure it would be changed back. The only goal was to increase competition and class size. Are there any thoughts what could be done to achieve this goal. again 40+ ex field is usually 4-5 riders, the 40+ sport was 6-7 and beginner 0-1. as it stands it is not profitable to the mountain to run such small classes give race prizes/money and series prizes

Update March 25, 2005
Due to several debates on this 40+ issue, we've decided to table the decision to combine categories. Once the vote is in, we'll post the decision. If you have something to say about it, please call and ask for the race director or send an email to info@plattekill.com.
