Try doing a search for "scratch stanchion". You'll find quite a few threads on this.

depending on how deep, 120-500 grit sandpaper, and some clear nailpolish will do the trick.

Metal to metal epoxy and lots of sanding

I used very, very fine steel wool. I cleaned it, sanded it down lightly, then used some aluminum/mag polish and put it on the steel wool while buffing the scratch lightly. Worked well! :thumb: It also depends on the septh of the scratch. You can also do the nail polish, but for a more durable repair, use some JB Weld or the like.

I agree with all the above and when your done go get some fork guards so you don't have to waste your time doing this again. Screw people if they say it looks stupid. :thumb:

When this happened to me, I actually didn't need to use any epoxy, but I used 600 grit waterproof sand paper to buff out the scratch. The wet sanding is highly recommended, it worked very well.

Get some 500 or higher grit sandpaper, a bucket of water, some rubbing alcohol and a package of JB weld. First wet sand the scratch to remove sharp edges next dry the stanchion and clean it really good with alcohol. Mix up the JB Weld and spread a thin layer over the scratches. Be really careful not to get more than you need on the stanchion because you'll have to sand it off later and it takes a long time. Wait a day or so for the epoxy to cure and then wet sand the stanchion, rinsing the sandpaper frequently in the bucket of water, until all you see is the epoxy in the scratch, the stanchion should be smooth as new. Don't worry too much about sanding through the annodize on the stanchions it would take you all day to do with a 1000 grit sandpaper, that stuff is nearly as hard as carbide.

I think if everyone used the search function, Ridemonkey would come to a dead stop.
