I read sometime last year in Mountain Bike Action about a guy who died at the end of a stage in the Tour de France. A few kilometers from the finish he fell from his bike and told the spectators to "put me back on my bike". He rode to the finish, collapsed, and died.

Anyone know his name, and when this was, or any other information?

Tom Simpson was his name, it happened on Mt Ventoux. An autopsy showed that Tom had traces of amphetamines in his blood. Investigators also discovered more of the drugs in his hotel room and the pockets of his jersey.
