I am running a short cage rear de-raileur on my D8 with a roadie cluster and a 32t up front.
I have a Deore long cage that I carry in the spares bag for emergency only until I can get hold of another roadie rear de-raileur. I was wondering when I have to go plan B if I trash the current de-raileur, would I have to put a few extra links in the chain due to the long cage and how many would you suggest????

P.S. The Topic title is supposed to be Shimano but the edit feature wont let me fix it.

Maybe 2 more links. Depending on your current chain length, it probably wont be a big deal if you leave it the way it is....especially if you want to get another Short cage soon

I tried going from a short cage to a long cage and it had my de-raileur all streched out. You would need to add some links.

when plan B comes around, just run it in the higher(smaller) gears till you get home to fix it.
