i guess there was a debate last night in portland tween the two; C-SPAN is due to air it next friday (check local listings). There was at least one heated exchange (but not tween the two guests):I just read an account of the debate held last night between Richard Perle and Howard Dean wrritten by a left winger who attended the debate. The highlight of the report is when some 52 year old Democrat threw a shoe at Richard Perle while screaming "mother f****** liar" numerous times as the police dragged him out of the debate hall. He missed Mr. Perle, who took the incident in light fashion. I believe there were local TV stations there, so I would think the whole episode would be on tape.that may have been the only reason why it's been promoted from cspan2 to cspan.

anytime howard speaks, it's a gem. Last week, f'rinstance: "You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had the hotel staff in here." as said to the Democratic Black Caucus.

He's the gift that keeps giving. No discretion or sense of hypocrisy whatsoever.

I'd like to see him try to give that speech to the Republican Black Caucus...

Having said that, I think there are better ways to loosen up a room than to make a racist joke...

Spot on.

I love the way the media is giving him a pass on this.

Remember the joke (equally assinine) by Trent Lott?

Granted, both guys were making jokes, but havent most of us learned by now that those kinds of jokes aren't the least bit funny?

You didn't get that.

The membership of the Republican Black Caucas is 0.

And this isn't the same thing as Lott either. Lott made a remark about how the country would have been better off if we all voted for a segregationist in 1948.

Dean's remark was made to a group of black people (who haven't said anything about it publically at this point.) I think it was racist, but a better comparison is Dean making a joke about Jewish lawyers to a group of Jews and Lott saying at a former SS officer's birthday party that we would have been better off if only Hitler had won the war.
