To become Canadian-Americans....

Singer 'strips' over censorship
BBC | 6 April, 2004

Singer Alanis Morissette wore a "nude suit" on stage at Canada's equivalent of the Grammys to complain about censorship in the US.

Morissette, who was hosting the Juno Awards in Edmonton on Sunday, wore the cartoon-style bodysuit in protest at TV and radio censorship in the US.

"We can't show nipples on national TV," she said in relation to Janet Jackson's Super Bowl incident.

"I am proud to be able to stand here and do this," she told the audience.

"We live in a land where we still think the human body is beautiful and we're not afraid of the female breast," the singer said, after stepping out of a dressing gown to reveal her "nudity".

'They're scared'

Morissette then criticised a radio station in the US for forcing her to change strong language in one of her recent songs.

"They're in an era when they're scared, when there's lots of fear," she said.

The Juno awards were this year dominated by Montreal's Sam Roberts, who picked up three awards.

Pop singer Nelly Furtado won best single for What You Want, while singer Sarah McLachlan won best songwriter. Rock band Nickelback took best group.

Morissette, who became an overnight sensation for her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill, releases a new album in May.

But yet...

Alanis Morissette Becomes U.S. Citizen
Canadian Press | Feb 17 05

LOS ANGELES - Canadian Alanis Morissette (news) is now an American citizen.

The 30-year-old singer was among some 4,500 people who took the citizenship oath during a ceremony last week at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Morissette isn't turning her back on Canada — she's maintaining dual citizenship.

"I will never renounce my Canadian citizenship," Morissette said in a statement Wednesday. "I consider myself a Canadian-American.

"There was a turning point during the ceremony where I felt connected to this country in a way that I didn't quite expect," she said. "America has been really great to me and I have felt welcomed since the day I came here."

Morissette's songs include "Ironic" and "You Oughta Know."

1) Old News
2) She's a singer who is a Canadian, but who makes most of her money from the US. Can you say 'tax reasons'?

I'm sorry, I must have missed the connection between "most canadians" and Alanis Morissette.

So is Michael Jackson proof that "most Americans" want to fondle young boys?

being "American" is an insurance policy.
like a lot of people i know of in peru are "Americans" in papers.
so whenever this country melts down, they have somewhere to flee... (or if they get in fat problems with the law too), or to avoid taxes.

i've been working at the high security Bangor Naval Base and putting a roof on. There are a couple huge units on the roof all made from Canada. As of yet i've seen no illegal immigrants stored inside them.

I think Alanis just wanted another excuse to take her clothes off in public again.

But when was the last time you had the urge to pose "nude" in front of a huge crowd? I struggle with that often...
