I just placed an order for my new P.1. I am expecting it to arrive soon. You all know that they do not come with a front brake. Should I buy the same one that it has in the rear which I believe is a Hayes HMX-2 for the front or upgrade. I need a good cheap disc brake. I was thinking about getting the Avid ball bearing brakes. Any input will be nice. :thumb:

When I order a new brake (and a new fork, the one on the P.1 sucks) I will be getting little crown valve caps. Those should be tight.

Haha. Alright, thanks for the input. If i get a DJ3, should I put an 8 inch or 6 inch rotor up front?

I'd probably run a 6, for dj and street, i doubt you'd need an 8" rotor for stopping power. 6 should be fine, but it's your decision.

Yea true, I was just saying for an 8" I would need a larger adapter correct. I guess with the disc mounts that Marzocchi has, you dont need a larger rotor. I believe you do if it has a Manitou. We will see.

Definately get an avid, i have mx2's.... not liken em so well.. but it just might be because i dont take care of things? :/

True, but I would take car of em because I have the tools and a shop to take car of em in. I might just buy a HMX-2 for the front and right em until I dont let them anymore. My friend has HMX-1's on his 2003 P.1 and the brake pads havent been changed for 2 years and they still work good enough to get up on the back tire.

i ran avid 203mm all year, held up well, with the funn torque twister lever (it just keeps bending back, i love it) and they startled most 8inch hayse riders. with the funn levers you can adj them from a canti pull to a v-brake pull , and basically it make the brake softer withe more modulation or more on and off, basically the same power just whether you want a hard or softer lever. 8/10

I love my levers to be reactive. I hate squeezing down to the bar to get stopping power. Thats mostly because I like to do some "trials" stuff while riding street.

I have Avid mechs and HMX-1 and i would go with the avids. The Avids have so much more power and adjustablity than the Hayes.

Now on another subject.

Ok, now when my P.1 comes should I ride it for a while with the fork that comes with it or buy a DJ3. Or should I save up for a Rock Shox Pike.

ride it for a while with that fork, then up grade later. mz wont resell so you should get as much use out of it as you can

Pike no doubt... miles ahead of the DJ3 in every way.

Yea good idea. Then maybe I will buy a Pike later. If I cant get it through my shop, then I will just go with the DJ series.

The fork that comes standard isn't the greatest piece of work ive ever seen, i would save up for the pike, but it all depends on what type of riding you do most.
