Thanks Monkeyboy, I love the thing. Its a bit on the hefty side, but no matter... it is really stable, easy to jump, and real easy to bunny hop and manual.

NICE ride. I love the minuteman frames...but wish they came with vertical drops. Love the Shiver, too...that's what's going on my HT when it gets here.
Is there any difference between the Doubletrack and the Intense rim? Welds vs pins, etc? Where can you get doubletracks besides OEM?

Thanks. It would be nice to have a vertical dropout option. Oh well, I run a bolt on axle so my wheel stays on tightly.
The Shiver runs really well. It's the best single crown fork I've ever ridden. I never thought a fork could make so much difference. It makes the bike feel so nimble and quick.
There are diffs between the Doubletrack and Intense Mag 30. The Doubletrack is a pinned rim where as the Mag30 is a welded rim. In terms of durability, I honestly can't tell the difference.
In Vancouver Canada, DoubleTracks are very common and available as a non OEM part at almost any bike store.

The most elegant bikes in this thread so far are that independent fabrication one and the blue on one's.
Here's mine that I just finished building last week. I'm very cheap, so I dug up the best deal I could. I got all this brand new for $740.
PGKelly

It's a 6" Junior T. I absolutely hated it at first, but it's really grown on me. I have recovered my bunnyhops to their full height and only nosedived off a few drops before I got used to the extra weight. As shown it weighs in at a slightly hefty 34.75 pounds. I had it built with a Manitou Black and some XC tires and it weighed 31.25 pounds, but I quickly lunched the internals on that fork (after one goddamn day of riding I destroyed the dampers so it was just unrestricted motion) and the XC tires had no grip on wallrides, so they had to go. This thing is fantastic! After I got it I cancelled the DH bike I had on order, just because I couldn't see riding it after this. So much fun! It's not really trail-ride-able, but for urban, park, and even some SSHTDH I am very, very happy. Pedal grinds, sprocket stalls, disasters, wallrides, general havoc, this is wonderful.

it's not derogitiory, it's just that most people are more comfortible w/ the left foot forward, hense it being regular. than MTBR's adopted some snowboard terminology and called right foot rides goofy riders. snowboarders have the same naming system, it's not goffy for you but overall it's for most.

Its got 24-inch wheels front and rear (which makes the bike look "bigger"), but seat tube is only 13.50, so it's actually not "huge" at all.

Unreal
02-05-2003, 05:47 PM
Yup,
Most of the Bommers out in the wild are doing just fine, but more then a small handful either folded or snapped at exactly that spot. I guess that was the result of using double butted tubing and a large downtube gusset, it ended up focusing the stresses on the thinner part of the tube. Woops!
One of the cool things about Planet X is that they’re always evolving their frames. They realized that some riders where pushing those bikes HARD, and the frames weren’t holding up, so around mid 2002 they changed the design of both the Bommer and the Gimp to use a strait gauge down tube and revised gussets. It added almost a pound to the bike if I remember right, but the new ones have absolutely no problem at that spot :-)

hehe, I knew i'd get razzed for that, but I just slipped the fork on for a pic - I think the fact I have a 9mm front wheel in a 20mm dropout is more of a concern ;)
About the design - We all know that aluminum fatigues and isn't an ideal metal for bike frames - but, it fatigues from flexing. Thus if you build an aluminum frame that don't flex, it's gonna last a long, long time. I think the Le Toy is going to last a long, long time :D
And it's got more engineering than people give it credit too - after all, it's on it's third version, with many small changes along the way. The under-engineered and overbuilt award definitely goes to Clifcat for their Tankass ;)

MD
(I keep thinking about overbuilt and under-engineered asses now...you know, the kind that look eniticing with paint and stickers and all sorts of finish :p , but, when laid bare, show poor construction...and fail to hold up to flexing and fatigue in the long term, leaving you with a ruined mess.)

Hey, this is Nick from Santa Cruz, CA. This is my baby, okay, my play bike/xc pedaler once in a while. It's a 2001 Bruiser One, it's got a 2002 Z1 FR, Tioga Cube stem and Factory DH 2.3 front tire, Kenda Kinetics 2.35 rear. Azonic World Force 26" bar my buddy gave me, Odi Lock-on grips, Avid SD 3 Brakes, Shimano 8-speed drivetrain(new shifter, cassette, etc), Race Face Prodigy DH crankset with bachguard with SRX BB(affordable and tough, somehting not usually said about crankset.) , Weyless Mod 37 Pedals(hey, it's just like the A Frame and a third the price, what do you expect from a high school kid on a budget?).The only stock parts are the seat, wheels, and brake levers. The next upgrade will be Hayes Discs or maybe Shimano XT discs. Hope you guys like it.

actually, to spec. this bike out as it is right now wouldn't be what i'd call a ton of coin, but not so cheap either :( i got it used, so i got a break there... new this would run over 2g easy (i think)

anyway, i'm very happy w/ it.
as far as the seat goes, i love it for xc where my full weight isn't on the saddle, but for this application it's a little harsh, although the ti rails do have some give to them... in truth, i've only run the seat on it for one ride 3 hrs... and i was ok afterwards.
that seat's on this bike because the one that came with it was far too long & didn't let me x-up the bars.

it's not white... the frame's white & the orange/red of the maxxis stripe comes out light like this in the b/w shot because this bw was created heavily from the red color channel (of the 3 RGB channels).. it was created in photoshop but essentially has the same effect as shooting this scene in BW with a red filter.
as a reference, the light parts on the seat are also red and they come out as a light grey much like the tires... the tires appear lighter because they're set against the black rubber.
so if when you asked if it was photoshop - yes... but i didn't manually select the areas of the tire & brigten them, only used the red color channel as a greyscale (more or less)

This is a calculator for possible combinations for single speed w/verticle dropouts, but for my chute it didn't quite work,If I had access to lots of chainrings and cassettes I'd experiment, but instead I just made my own tensioner outa an old cantilever brake arm.

Ah grasshopper patience and you will get there:D Believe me patience is not my virtue at all.As for the PX and the Kona Chute they are still complete:eek:
My Kona Stinky is alot lighter though now;) as i have seen the light and gone over to the HT crowd.I love the HT's and riding them and the skills they build. The Chute is setup to take the place of the Stinky w/ a heavy build and a triple crown fork on it.
As for the fork well i'm kind of attached to it.Right now i have 3 Psylos(1 SL and 1 XC w/Tullio,and one XC w/QR) After getting this bike together i now have alot less spare parts somewhat.Atleast now i won't have to hang a sign out as a bike shop:D

Now that's a tough one.I think it's up to you as to what you feel you need;) But from past experiance myself i have seemed to always kick myself after i sold something or a bike :D Sure i needed to sell some things but there are others that i shouldn't have.
As for the Mr. T i almost had a similiar situation.I was going to sell the Stinky frame and the S-7 fork with it.Figuared heck i didn't need the S-7 for anything. Then i thought about all the bikes that i have seen with Shivers and other big hit forks on them and decided that i should keep the fork and still sell the frame;)
The S-7 had just come back from being redone when i bought it so i haven't even ridden it yet plus i have enough HT's that one of them might see the S-7 on it someday, who knows:rolleyes:
Like i said it's up to you but the Mr. T is a nice fork.I'm not sure how old it is but if you sold it then decided that you needed another big hit fork later on then you would have to go through the whole process of finding one that is affordable to you.
I would say just save up the money for your friends and keep the Mr. T.That's how i came around to having alot of parts over time, but that's just me:D

I'm currently running a raceface prodigy seat post. It's the longest I can find out there besides the thomson. The thomson cost a lot more though. I do have the 243 racing seatpost but it's just not long enough for any kind of extended climbing.

Nd4Spd, thanks yo! Yeah it will be nice to have it done and riding. The seat is sweet, looks kinda freakish but in a good way, it's really narrow so it's not the best for seating riding but I wanted something that disappears when you stand up... this is going to be good for that I think :)
On the topic of seatposts, the ROOX post looks downright meaty, I wish I had one (to match the bigness of my seat)

I love Tioga seats, esp. the XLs...but the Nico models certainly have it over the regular ones. The rails are a ton lower, and a bit stronger due to their shapes, I think. The stripe is a plastic textured strip, not a print that wears off. And they come in full-kevlar, too!

Poser and LBS those bikes are looking good:thumb:LBS it takes time but is always worth the end result when building a bike up.Even though (as i know) it isn't easy.;)
poser that ike looks good with the SC on it and i also like it with the Boxxer as well. Atleast now you have the choice to go either way. That's if you didn't sell your boxxer.I like choices when it comes to bikes:D

I hear ya there.. I woulda been smart to just get a Norco Rampage or something but this way will be fun in the end :D
Choices is good. I want to run a Shiver SC later on, and with the tire clearance it has, I'll purchase a set of 24" wheels, some 24x3.0 Gazzys and some 24" Tioga CompIII's so I can mix and match to all sorts of combinations! Wee!

i learned manuals (and still usually do them) on my zebdi trials bike: magura rim brake, sticky pads, and a grinded rim  doesn't get more on/off than that, and it manuals great... just got to learn to not use any brake! :)

hey, guys.
it's real weird to think that this thread was started a year ago.
but yeah, i was checking out the 1st couple posts,
and my brooklyn park bike was posted, without my notice.
not that i mind, but i do mind when people misinform
others of my ride.
but yeah.
Sam B, i'm glad you liked it. it does have lower bars (ringleaders)
and a lower gear (odyssey utility gear 39t) now.
atrokz and voodoo, the bars were brooklyn machine works bars,
they look totally different from dmrs. and they're nokian gazzis,
i thought the logos were visible on the sidewalls.
i'd like to post a pic of my updated bike,
but i don't know how, can anyone help?
thanks.

under the box that you type in to post ther should be a space that says attach file. make sure your file is under 102kb and click browse. find your picture, click open and then hit submit reply after putting in a few words of text into the reply box.
