I dont know about converting the DT Onyx specifically. The hub I have on in the picture I bought with a 10mm solid axle. However, I did convert the XT hub on my other wheel to a 10mm solid axle. It was pretty easy, I went to a local shop and got a solid 10mm cromo axle (I think it was 178mm long, but I would check that before buying) then got some axle nuts for it. The threads on the axle are 10x1.0 metric threads. I just took the QR axle out and put the solid one in (make sure you keep track of what order the cones, nuts, etc come off in...) Hope this helps out!
Yes, thank you! You confirmed what JEffD's LBS told me. But he wasn't 100% sure about the thread pitch.

toshi, how do you like that thing? any idea what it weighs in at? I really like the imperial frames and after racing for the first time this weekend and doing well on a hardtail i think i will build one up. Is that SS by the way?
it was pretty fun. the handlebars are too high imo, but with the zerostack setup it would probably feel just about right. and, yes, it is single speed. the monster is just a temporary thing until my "real" frame gets in (and then the z1 will be back to a sane build :D ).

Could you post a picture of just the bike? The add says you can get 2 sizes - is that 24 and 26" ?
Crap, sorry. He has the smaller of the two sizes. He's @ 6' and he loves the fit. I've ridden it and agree. Tempting to build my own but I think I'm too old for a hardtail.

holy crap dude! that camo paint job rocks! how did you do it? (i.e airbrush, spraypaint/stencils etc)

Millar
08-03-2004, 05:39 AM
Hand cut blobs out of masking tape and applied paint with a spray gun in successive layers of colour, masking more blobs between colours. After all the colours were applied, unmask it all and paint over the whole lot with a clearcoat to unify it and protect.

I'm going to guess based on the gussets and the made in the USA label that it just might be a Sinister frame - A Sinister Ridge methinks - Did I get it right?

I've never seen one without paint though, but the welds, gussets, and dropouts look very FTW-like.

It's not 1.5, just oversized to accept headsets like the King Steelset.

It's a Sinister DNA, I know because I have one! I posted it on this thead a while back.

Did you go with the built kit from Sinister or your own parts?

It is a ridge. sorry for the long delay in response to questions. I am building it piece by piece as I have done for a long time know. It is so much more fun to build up a frame with various parts both new and used. Some of the parts I have are obscure but I like them, namely an old school sram eight speed rear shifter. I should have it built up as soon as a I receive a wheelset from fellow monkey KL. I totally can't wait to get it done! Will post pics upon completion.

Started with Marzo Jr T and some doublewide wheels (26 2.5 front and 24 2.7 back). The ride is more like a DH bike now just missing the travel in the rear, even then the bike is much more solid down the rough bits and tracks very straight! :)

This frame has to be over 5 years old and it just won’t give up. It has been a trials bike, a normal HT, I have had a set of boxxers on it a used it for DH all last winter and I also built it up to ride to work on.
So I am now taking onto the streets when the weather starts to get bad to see how long it will last. :D
The 24” wheels fell a bit odd.

Ok thanks... i am up to new bushings myself for my Rs psylo tullio sl..

But those hookworms are weighing 1.5 kilograms a piece. :stosh: I am slapping on some lighter rubber to. I've ordered two Maxxis Larsen tt 2.35's. A weight difference of 764 grams compared to the Maxxis Bling Bling Slow reeeeeezzaayy.. 40 a's . With 1125 grams. Super tyre for dry 4 x and dirt tracks.

Yeah I might have to put some lighter ones on, DMR do some good ones.

I had some Bling Blings on my GT they were good but on the road the were hard work so I have got a high roller semi silk on the back with a high roller on the front and that is working well.
I would like to try some TT but you can only get them in 1.95” in the UK

Well you should buy them here then, http://www.bike2build.nl/toonartikel.php?id=7657 they also ship to Uk and other countrys. I ordered them there, and usaully buy all my tires there. I am from Holland and the shop offcourse to, so you don;t have pay importtaxes orso. Because it is in the Eu.

Sweet!

Hey, better late than never, right?

The IH lineup this year looks absolutely sick. A bike for every budget!

Thanks!! Not quite *every* budget as the people who would buy a HT w/ DeeMax wheels and a Sherman Breakout are probably pretty rare. This was more of a fun project bike instead. :D

I must say, though, the combination of the 6" 1.5 Sherman, DH wheels, 31.8mm bar/stem combo and 2.5 tires filled to 35psi is STIFF. Probably stiffer than my DH bike with a boxxer.

Anyway, this little bike RIPS. Had forgotten how much fun it was to freeride on a HT, and even with the 6" fork it corners perfectly. Now just to take it out and REALLY abuse it some more... :thumb:

THANKS!!!

Took it for a FR/XC ride on sat, and the thing kicked some serious ass. Light enough to pedal around, and tough enough for some fun drops. DH on it on Sun was a different story. Bike was fine, but I guess I'm not DH HT certified. Back pain took me out halfway down the first run, guess I'm too used to my DH bike. But fun as hell regardless!!

Peyto hardtail/Pike Team combo. Race Face/SRAM drivetrain setup. Avid Juicy-5 on the brakes. King rear/Hope Bulb front on the hubs with some Mavic 819 rims. The Gravity Dropper post works well with this bike. Mishmash of other parts, but it's all stuff I like. This is my "daily driver" ride on everything bike. It's been to Keystone. It does all the local rides. It does the big, long high country slog rides.

Does anybody know what's up with the Sinister web site? It's been down for a week or two. Nice pricing in Germany but sad to hear about the paint job. My 2004 Minuteman which was made late 2003 has no flaws regarding paint, welding or geometry! I guess it´s a little too late to contact Trail Attack, the German dealer in Berlin?

Not as full on Dh as some of your rides, but it works for me. Updated pic junk with new fork/wheels.

Peyto Cycles Wild Bill frame, Rock Shox Pike Team 140mm travel fork.

SRAM 9.0 rear mech/shifter/front mech, front Suntour XC Pro thumbshifter, full sealed housing.
Avid mech. discs (185mm/160mm front/rear) & Paul Love Levers, full housing.
Race Face Taperlock Ti bb, Cook Bros. E-crank, 32/22 rings, Salsa bash ring, Shimano M545 pedals.
Thomson 90mm stem/no rise, Answer Protaper bar, ODI-Oury lock on grips, Chris King headset.
XTR 12-34 cassette, Hope rear QR & seatclamp QR, Aerolite Ti seatpost, Performance Forte Pro SL seat.
Chris King rear hub/Mavic 719 rim, Hope Bulb 20mm front hub/Mavic 717 rim; both with 15/16DB spokes and alloy nips. Front Panaracer Fire FR 2.4 tire, rear Maxxis Mobster 2.5 DH Super Tacky. Tires change depending on the ride. Some ti and alu bolts here and there.

29# as pictured. Goes everywhere. XC/urban/lift accessed DH. One bike for all. Though I'm looking at a decent deal on a good shape 02/03/04 170mm Boxxer for the lift DH and shuttle days; only do that a few times a year, but a bigger fork for those days would be nice...... The Pike gives it about a 69 degree headangle, I think a Boxxer would give me ~67.5 or so.

maybe cowman will chime in with the pics, but i put my friend's 888r on my soul cycles hardline today. complete SS with XTR v-brake on the rear, FSA x-drive cromo cranks it weighed in at 32.5lbs

an 888 on a hardline? Are you asking for head tube snappage or what? That was their XC hardtail frame set for 2004 wasn't it?

i'll see if i can get the pics up. I'm not riding around and hucking isht with the 888, it was just to see what it'd be like. riding aroudn the parking lot and stuff like that-- not real riding. i think my pike race comes in today or tomorow, so that'll be my real fork.

02 Kona Chute with new paint job and so many parts change either broken or crap directly from Kona. I bought the bike as a do it all bike when I don't down hill and its a has been a great bike for that. Long enough for trial riding and short enough to dirt jump.

likin the dropbuster? I can now state for the reccord that cheap 8/9spd chains are not singlespeed worthy. Mine has stretched significantly in the past week.
