Greg Herbold made him do it. When you're H-ball (forgive me for saying that), you need anything you can get to remain relevant/noticable etc.......

that pattern was used on a DH hardtail in the mid 90's. "Stronger" or something

that wheel cause one of the all-time greatest mtbr flame-wars. Apparently spoke lacing patterns is a very touchy subject....

hmm, Ive laced wheels like that before and never had problems. They seem to be a little more laterally stiff. But to tell you the truth, Ive just done it in the past because I bought the wrong legnth spokes.

Yeah, I remember that.. It was pretty funny. That guy got reamed with dozens of people who had some good data to back up their arguments, when he just had, "um, the guy told me it was better..."
Anyhow, the Dare looks very nice except for those eyesore wheels. Hope it stays together for ya' - from all accounts, they ride really nicely, just not so much fun when warrenty time rolls around.
why dod you put the mRP roller on your Evil? gurantee you it doesn't work better.
why? it's better now! it dosen't keep so much noise and chainline is better now...

thats a sweet bike, but elsworths are so damn expensive man....
they're made in the exact same factory as santa cruz and mountain cycle, both of which are much more reasonably priced. You'd think with how much they're selling these bikes for, that they'd be able to handle some warranty claims. Maybe thats why they can afford 8 page spreads in MBA, at $6k a page.
Nice bike, but I'd never buy one.

if the chainline is better now, then you did not have it set properly to start with. Also, the E.13 when set properly should be damn near silent. Your guide is improperly setup if you have chainline and noise issues.
i don't know about this. the first generation evil guides were quieter than the second/current and they used mrp type rollers, so it's not inconceivable that an mrp roller would make the current guide quieter.

Both of my evil guides rattle at the pulley. It's hard plastic. I'm sure the mrp roller is quieter.

I have a FSA chainguide with an E-thirteen Bashring and two MRP rollers and the chainline is Ok, it never dropped my chain and is very quiet.
So it works for me.
Could be different with a E-thirteen guide ofcourse.

all of mine are quiet and were purchased at the beginning of the 04 season.
Have you got the "stealth" roller? The fact that they even made that thing says a little something about the noise of the stock ones. I've gotten used to it but when I switched from an MRP to evil guides on both my jump bike and my DH bike, I remember thinking something was dragging whenever I'd backpedal. No big deal, I just think they are louder than something made of softer plastic.
So do you have bike(s) yet or just chainguides? I might go coastal sometime soon here.

mine e13 are a bit louder than my mrp as well. no big deal. it still makes less noise than my rear der., whereas my mrp is absolutely silent.

me bikes? ha! you're funny. I have access to bikes if I need/want them, but I'm putting all my money into savings/paying down debt. After that point, I'm looking at moving, so however much THAT costs me plus deposits, etc. you know how it goes. At the current rate, I'll be lucky to have a bike by this time next year. but who knows, I might be in OC/LA by then...
-stone
so you dropped the motorcycle idea and now you're moving to LA?
Wonder what will be in next weeks stoney's episode? ;)

The stealth roller is only for the DRS guide, which was, as they say in Nor*Cal, hella noisy with the old roller.
Dares (heck, most Ellsworths) are sure some of the nicest-looking and smoothest-riding bikes out there.
Sanjay had the best-ever "snowflake" wheels. His spokes were too long, so he just twisted them up around each other to make them fit inside the wheel, then tensioned the whole torturous infernal machine. They actually worked.
