tips on aligning f. der with only 2 chain rings

I run 2 chain rings and a bash guard on my bike, and I've had a very hard time getting the front der. set properly. I can get it so it shifts pretty well, but the chain drags/slaps fairly frequently (more often than on any of my other bikes). Any tips for getting it set correctly? If it needs to be said, finding the correct "height" is my problem (i.e. how far up/down the seat tube it should be). Or is my problem likely somewhere else?

Is it rubbing the cage or slapping the frame?

If you have a big ring handy, you could use that as a guide to help set the height.

Is it hitting the cage in the rough stuff or when you are pedaling?


May be -- An older chain will have more side to side slop.
