well It gets Complicated then.

If the VP Fails to finish his term in Office ( Dies, Resigns or medically no longer capable ) the President appoints a New VP, But he must be approved by 2/3 of the senate , until a Candidate is approved the Speaker of the House will act in that roll. If both the President and The Vice President Both are unable to Finishe ther eterms Concurently the Speaker ofthe House would then become president.

Only once Have we actually gotten a President Via this method ,

In 1972 Vice president Spiro Agnew Resigned and Nixon appointed Gerald Ford VP, When Nixon resigned Ford Became President . the speaker of the house has never accened to presidnt via this method.
