I competed in the Ninety mile beach race yesterday.
and today I feel like someone has spent a few hours kicking me with a pair of those steelcapped work boots.
I came 7th.
the attrition rate was a lot lower this year.
last year only 8 out of 16 teams managed to finish.
this year 11 out of 13 made it.
60 miles of surf break during a 3meter swell.
I'm absolutely wrecked.

I'm beat as well. Just ran the Boston Marine Corps 10K. We were supposed to run in formation, nice, easy, slow. This was true for everybody else but me and another Poolee. Gunnery Sergeant Pashilain told us rabbits (the fastest ones) to do an individual effort and put RSS Waltham up on the rankings in top 10%. I ran it in a bit under 42 minutes. I went to bed last night at about 4 after working out for 2 hours. I was expecting the nice easy run, but that certainly wasn't the case.

Well 2 days later I'm still bloody sore.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention my freind Matt who was driving the other boat from Karekare
He managed to catch a Mullet during the race.
it was big enough that when he ran it over with the boat the klonk when it hit the prop guard made him stop to see what had happened to it.
and Rob who was crewing saw the Mullet lying there utterly stunned grabed it and threw it into the boat!
Unbeliveable he had time to catch a fish in the middle of the race and still beat me by 2 places.:rolleyes:

sounds like whale boats but you never know...

An IRB is an Inflatable boat....Like a Zodiac.
2.4 meters long with a 30hp outboard motor.

The race is a distance of 60miles (from one end of the beach to the other).
The whole distance to be spent in the surf break, except at 4 compulsory fuel stops, and a stop to carry the boat over a sandspit halfway down (worst part of the race carrying the boat/motor/fuel 100meters over soft sand.).
And about 1 third of the way down you leave the surf break and circle an island 1km offshore.
And then again at the last fuel stop 2 of the crew have to run half a km inland climb a hill (200ft high) and return while the third member tries to refuel the boat (not easy single handed).

By the end of it you are so tired that as you battle the waves you just get thrown around like a rag doll in the boat.

The waves out at the Island were F**Kin scary! :eek:
out there they were running at about 12ft.
and solid. It was like haveing green 2 story houses comeing at you at 20miles an hour.
then there was the huge back wash off the Island. the waves would come at you from any angle.

Anyway my team did pretty damm good in the race over the weekend. :D :D

It was officially the largest mountain bike event in the woprld!
with OVER 3,000 riders involved.
There were about 60 doing the race solo but the rest of us were in relay teams of 5 (12 hour length race, from 10.30am - 10.30pm).

There were 500+ teams in my division (mixed open) and we came 18th equal!!!!!!!!! :D :cool: :D

Congrats Mr. W. My race weekend was less exciting. I had arrived at the mountain rather late friday night, and then met up with some people from my general area. We f'ed around until about 1 or so, when the RV of a friend's team finally showed up. We shot the s with them until about 2, and then went back to the hotel. 4:45 rolls around and some douchebag knocks on the door and tells us it's time to get up. Close door, sleep till 6. Load up, drive, register, on the mountain by 7:45. 3 practice runs without issue, 1st race run, slower than my usual(hadn't ridden downhill for ~2 months, still a respectable time) 2nd race run, I decide to pin it, but my chain decides to break, so i go the last 3rd of the course without pedalling. at the bottom, get off, sprint my cycle across the slightly uphill finish. 4th place by 3 seconds:mad: :mad: :mad:

Had my surgery today. Its amazing what they can do now with the arthoscopic surgery. I can walk (albeit not very well) and my surgery ended 7 hours ago.

Pain is rediculous though. Especially since I threw out my vicoden. I took one once I woke up from the surgery. It made me feel so weird. I can't understand why people like getting high. I'm just going to gut it out and use my buddies Jack and Jim to control the pain.

my week has been ****ty

i got my report card, with a mangy 2.3 GPA

a very very very dear friend of my family died on tuesday
she lost her battle with cancer i guess

on wensday, my nextdoor neighbor died of pancriatic cancer, but he smoked like a chimney, so it was more expectent. the sad part was, his wife was in denial, thinking that there was hope, but the cancer was everywhere.

thursday i went to the wake for our dear friend, and my english teacher was there (who knew her also) and he was crying. it was pretty shocking becasue he is also the football coach and kinda a gruff guy.

then on halloween, i missed all the *cough* fun activitys *cough* at school to go to her funeral. it was intense, this lady must have touched a lot of lives becasue this church was packed to the gills. it seats about 500, maybe 550 uncomfortably. but all the seats were taken and there were people standing in the back of the church too.

THEN, i went to go work for my neighbor scaring the crap out of little kids, and it was not walk in the park, it was actually hard, stupid kids have no sense of what is scary. I also thought i was going to get paid, but that didnt happen.

THEN after that, all my plans to go egging DIED becasue my friend taht was gonna go, decided to jock his cousin and follow him everywhere. so he went to a football game instead.

The knee's pretty good. I was walking the day of the surgery and all, and its just been getting better since. I can't feel any pain in it, and my range of motion is good. My doctor thinks it'd be best if I leave for Parris Island in January/February, so thats when I'm leaving.
